THE INTERNAL SERIES

Alice and Jane have worked collaboratively since 2019, when they received a commission from the Irish contemporary music group Kirkos Ensemble to create a performance piece titled 'The Upper Hand’. The work was performed in the early months of 2020 and marked the beginning of their collaboration, merging artforms and influences from Ireland, Denmark and Austria. Together, they focus on the portraying social themes through the cyclical relationship between sound and movement.

During the pandemic, they were keen to continue their artistic development and worked remotely to create new works - a three-part film work called “The Internal Series”:

The series depicts our individual experiences while demonstrating the universal isolation experience, a representational audio visual work which will collectively resonate with the experiences of many.

monotony

part I (2020)

In the “monotony” movement, we worked with feelings of heaviness, passivity, dullness and weariness within the everyday routine experiences of lockdown.

OVERLOAD

part II (2020)

In “OVERLOAD” we worked with feelings of over-stimulation while processing all the information we regularly come into contact with. We are so often bombarded with too many messages, images, and symbols that are constant sources of stress. We are left with a dilemma of empathy versus desensitisation. In modern day life, we are constantly exposed to an overload of information - but to what effect?

Reverie

part III (2022)

​This film demonstrates the experience of being lost in one’s thoughts while looking to nature as a refuge when the world’s unstoppable forces come into play.

INTERNAL SERIES LIVE

Kirkos ensemble has since commissioned the duo to make an interdisciplinary, interactive work which will take the audience on a journey through four spatial installations of “The Internal Series” and a live performance, in Dublin 2023.
